White learn button: what remotes and keypads work?
A white learn button means Security+ 3.0, the newest Chamberlain Group platform (Chamberlain, LiftMaster, Craftsman). Remotes and keypads from older generations (yellow, purple, red/orange, green) will not program to it, and most universal remotes and the HomeLink Compatibility Bridge do not either. You need accessories that state Security+ 3.0 in the listing.
What works
- Remotes and keypads that explicitly say "Security+ 3.0"
- The same maker's own app / smart hub where the product page lists your opener
What will not work
- Yellow-button (Security+ 2.0) remotes such as the 893MAX
- Most universal and clone remotes
- Older HomeLink car buttons without a supported update
- Third-party smart controllers that rely on the old protocol
Many retail listings do not state the Security+ version. Check the listing text for "3.0" before buying.
If your remote is old and your opener is white-button, the remote is the issue only if the new one says 3.0. If a keypad/remote is not offered for your model, replacing the opener is sometimes the only route.
